LULU ISLAND MOMENT

GARY POINT

Lulu Islands southwestern extremity was named in 1827 by Aemilius Simpson, captain of the Hudson Bay Companys schooner Cadboro, in honor of Nicholas Garry, who was deputy governor of the company in 1827 until 1835. Simpson was searching for a site that would be suitable for a Hudsons Bay outpost on the lower Fraser River, and the Cadboro became the first ship ever to enter the Fraser. The place chosen was the historic site we now know as Fort Langley.
