LULU ISLAND MOMENT

First Nations Peoples

Richmond was the home to Halkomelem speakers of the Coast Salish Nation, most prominently the Musqueam people although there is some evidence of use of the land by the Kwantlen, Tsawwassen and Cowichan peoples. There were permanent sites, temporary fishing camps and villages, autumn fishing camps, summer camps for berries and crab-apples, and various other smaller types of sites. There are a variety of middens (archaeological sited of traditional First Nations land Use) on Sea and Lulu Island.
